Alegra, past participles also function as adjectives, especially following the verb be:

be gone adj. Being away from a place; absent or having departed.

Forms of be: is, are, am, was, were, been:

EX: He is gone. <He's no longer living, dead>
EX: After the tornado hit, my house was gone. <It was no longer there>
EX: How long will you be gone? I'll be gone for two hours. <I'll be away>
EX: Are you gone? <idiomatic: lose your faculties>
EX: I've been gone for days. <I've been away>
EX: We were gone for a while. <We were away>

    Hope that helps.
