    Default sentences

    Are these sentences correct:

1-This is a new book by my favorite author when I was a kid.
2-This is a new book by my favorite author four years ago.

The author was my favorite author when I was a kid/four years ago.

They both look a bit weird to me. I'd expand the sentence for clarity and say 'by the aithor who was my favourite...'.

I think the mention of the word "author" more than once in such a quick succession is a bit jejune and somewhat agrammatical.Similarly, the two(2) numbered sentences do not sound particularly impressive.I'd rather prefer the word "childhood" to the clause "when I was a kid"...something like this :
...This is a new book(written)by my childhood favorite author...
However, the sentence numbered(2) is polysemous!...Did the author write the book four years ago?...or were you his/her fan four years ago?(you may have had another favorite)

I think they're meant to be taken as two separate sentences, rather than part of the same text. At least, that's how I looked at them.

I don't particularly disagree with you.I neither said nor implied that the sentences either were or were to be construed as one.I only tried considering each of the sentences to determine their grammatical impeccability...

    lots of thanks
