Default I thought was my son. <-- Is it right?

My friend had a problem when he was watching a film.

He listened to the sentence below:
    "I thought was my son."

and wonder whether it is wrong because of missing a subject and the correct one should be
"I thought (subject) was my son."

I want to ask if the sentence "I thought was my son." is right for colloquial only or wrong.

I'd say it's wrong. It should have a name or a pronoun (he or it according to context).

Additionally, there could have been a contraction there,

I thought it was my son => contraction: I thought't was my son.

    with final -t't of thought't pronounced, though[dIt].

I thought it was my son.
I thought't was my son. (I though[dIt] was my son.)
