Hello. I don't understand what "see the country" means in this context below.
Does it mean "worry about the country?"
Please help. Thank you.

The boy wanted to grow up quickly to become an angel in turn, laughing with all his teeth gleaming. But until then, it was a good life, enlivened by backfiring daily and frequent camp changes: they were really seeing the country.
(In fact, the boy is a child soldier and an angel is a soldier. The boy was enlisted by the soldier whom he mistake for an angel.)

No, it mans 'see'. Sorry, but I don't see the problem.
