Default everyone came out a winner

What is the meaning of "came out" here? "become" seems to be the only one, which I couldn't find in the dictionary.

ex)...He said Lincoln's greatness was in his ability to deal successfully with others....They all had two things in common : enormous talent and an ego to match...But instead of getting rid of them, Lincoln honored them. Furthermore, he praised their abilities, sought their advice, and encouraged them to devote their talents and energy to serving the country. And everyone came out a winner.

Hi, IMO, it means that Lincoln had the ability to give his rivals the chance to make decisions, or at least give advice, so that everyone later appeared/were perceived as winners. That is, Lincoln's supporters would see him as a winner because he had that ability. His rivals supporters' would see them as winners because they gave good advice and whatever problem there was had been solved.
