I have two questions of the following sentence as written.

Going on a field trip by public transport can not only cut reduce the fare but will allow you to walk on the streets for short distances.

Q(1) Which is acceptable, "public transport" or "public transit"?

Q(2) Is the phrase "cut reduce the fare" acceptable? Why not only use the word "cut" or "reduce"?

"Public transport" is the correct term.
I think your sentence has one too many words. Either 'cut' or 'reduce' must be omitted.

In AmE, "public transit" is typically used. Use "cut" or "reduce".
