Default so I could take if off

This "so I could take if off" was used as a purpose even with a comma. When a comma is accompanied, it's usually a result. So in this case, do I have to judge from the context?

ex)That evening I was the focus of the dinner party of celebrities from the worlds of theater and music. As we were finishing dessert at the table, I asked my dinner partner on the right if he could remove the safety clasp on the back of my necklace, so I could take if off....

Keannu, most native speakers are rather less concerned about the finer points of punctuation that you. Use context and common sense first, 'rules' last, when it comes to working out what people mean.
Context is important. Please provide enough for us to be able to deal effectively with your question.
Your thread title should include all or part of the word/phrase being discussed.
If you just want to know the meaning of a word, try OneLook Dictionary Search first.
