"Project the kind of terror a man would feel while hanging by a frayed rope over an abyss."
I would like to know why hanging is used there.
Is it a grammar rule to use ing after while?
Could it be hung instead of hanging?
Thanks for the help.
Re: while hanging
'While hanging...' is a reduced clause, elliptical for 'while HE IS hanging...'.
