Verbs used with Gerund

1. Could you please tell me what to use "gerund" or "infinitive with to" after these Verbs ; suggest , finish ?

2. "prepare to cook" , "escape working" , "practise reading" are correct . Can I use some Prepositions in these Phrases such as ; prepare about cooking , escape from working , practise in reading . How different ?

1 Suggest + gerund - usuually includes the speaker: He suggested going to the cinema (= he probably went too) Suggest + subjunctive- he suggested we save our work to disk (as a British speaker, I wouldn't use this; I'd use 'saved' or 'that we should save') Finish + gerund Neither of these verbs goes with a to-inifnitive for me 2 'Prepare about' doesn't work for me. With the other two, there's no great change in meaning in your examples, though the prepositions would carry a meaning in others: He escaped prison = the judge didn't send him to prison, though he probably deserved it He escaped from prison = he was in prison and got out
