"We think that his gun was removed from the crime scene. But we're getting static on which one of your guys was there at that time." Would it mean they've been unable to figure out who was there at that time? What does "to get static on" mean?

IMO, if yoou look at entry #4, you can apply it as "your people are interfering with our investigation of who was there at that time" (pretty much like static intereference on radio/TV not aalowing you to hear/see clearly).

I've always assumed - whether rightly or wrongly - that this sort of 'static interference' was caused by 'static electricity'. Feel free to correct me; I'm no physicist!
