    Default Punctuation in 'i.e.' and 'e.g.'

    Should we put a comma after those abbreviations:
    1st. 'i.e.,' and 'e.g.,';

    or we shouldn't:

    2nd. 'i.e.' and 'e.g.'?

    I have heard that the 1st. option is from AE and the from BE? Is it right?

    I was taught to use a comma in BrE, but many don't nowadays. A lot of the old comas are going- people used to put one before 'too' at the end, but you rarely see that. You also see 'eg' without the full stops too (,too).

    I have realized that they don't put any comma after 'e.g.' and 'i.e.' even in Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary . I feel little confused, but I am still going to use it.

    In BrE, we are increasingly dropping commas there, but some use them. You'll also see eg without the full stops.
