    Default past perfect + would - correct form

    I have this sentence and I am not sure which one is correct form.

    I had hoped "that she would have answered my letter" or I had hoped "that she would answer my letter"

    Can someone help me?

    IMO, both options are correct, but depending on the context, they express different things. Could you give us some more context so that we can help you decide which one fits in better?
