would have liked/wanted
Are these both correct:
1-Last week, we wanted him to win the award. When he did, we were happy. Today we don't like him that much any more.
2-Last week, we would have liked him to win the award. When he did, we were happy. Today we don't like him that much any more.
Gratefully,
Navi.

Re: would have liked/wanted
#1 is OK.
I'd say 'We would have liked him to win the award. . .' when we already know that he didn't win it.
