Hi teachers,
I do not under stand the meaning of 'may be the better for it' in the following sentence:
"He must be prepared to set aside his ambitions, even for the higher rewards of the spiritual life, and learn in order that humanity, and not merely himself, may be the better for it."
Could you explain or write it in another way for me.
