Italica
I use italics to make a point. I have seen writers do it. Why? Should I use bullets or a number list instead to be understood better? pljames

They just do. The convention's been around for quite a while. Early typesetters - people who worked with individual slugs of metal to compose a printed page - represented stress by using italics. (But of course the more you use it the less people give it any weight: use it for a word or phrase - or at the very most for a short sentence.)

Bullets and numbered lists are also useful, but they don't in themselves mark stress (except the implied stress: ['The writer thought this was something worth putting in a list']
)
