Preposition Help
Hi all,
I'd like to ask about the use of preposition. The sentence goes:
He drives home from his office ____ his car every day.
It's a fill in the blank question so the order of the words can't be changed and the blank has to be filled with a preposition.
What should the answer be? My friends said it's "by" but I don't think it sounds right but I don't think it's right. We would say "he goes home by car." but not "he drives home by his car.", wouldn't we?
Thanks.

Re: Preposition Help
Yes, you're right - it would be incorrect to say he goes (or drives) home by HIS car. The word "his" is the problem.
The preposition you need here is "in"
He drives home in his car every day.
As you said, "he goes home by car" would be correct (and is much more "natural-sounding" than "drives in his car").

In AmE and in the example provided we would usually use "in", but without the possessive adjective "his", we would use "by".

Re: Preposition Help
I would think that the fact that he is driving tells me that he's using a car.
I mean, it might be a Zamboni or a street sweeper, but I doubt it.
