Do we need to add S to the end of the verb (continue)? I don't know whether continue refers to other suspects or Lieberman. For sure Lieberman has been set as an example of the suspects. As a result, I am in two minds.

May I suggest that when you come across such sentences in the future, it might help if you mentally

replace those commas with parentheses:

and as other suspects (such as Lieberman) continue to serve


As the parentheses clearly show, "such as Lieberman" is some extra information "thrown" into the sentence,

but it does not affect the grammatical structure.
