    Default comma splice

    She looked at the sun, it was sitting dangerously close to the west. She only hoped they had time to get everything of importance.

    i think the "it" should be replaced by "which".
    She looked at the sun, which was....
    am i correct?

    That's one way, but you could also change the coma to a semi-colon.
