Default what is a proper term?

I have a term on a tip of my tongue.. help! I think about houses inhabited by middle-class and isolated from outer world by expensive security systems. How is such an estate called in Britain and US? Is there any special term for luxuries block of flats (think: concierge, marbles, etc)? Thank you for any help!

Hi Magdalena (do you live in Poland, by any chance?),

In a BBC article on the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's death in New York, 8 December, 1980, the expression 'Dakota, a luxury appartment building' is used to describe the musician's residence.

Other than that, I have no suggestions, but there'll be more replies, I'm sure.

    All the best,
    Tomasz
