Default "at home" and adverbs of frequency?

Is it correct to say "He stays at home rarely" or "He doesn't stay at home very often"?

In my opinion " He rarely stay at home " would sound better.

As a Britsh English speaker, I would prefer He's rarely at home. It sounds more natural to me
