greedy for a criminal
What adjective could I use for "greedy" to describe that if the criminal wasn't going to steal everything, he wouldn't have been arrested?

How does stealing everything, as opposed to stealing something, affect the likelihood of a thief being caught?

It took him longer than it should have. He didn't manage to get away before police arrived.
