    Default so-nor different tenses

    Hello,

I have always seen the same tenses in both sides of the sentece such as ''I don't like science fiction. Neither does my husband. ''

But today I have seen the sentences I have written below in the story named ''a princess of Mars''. They used the two different tenses in both side.

1- I opened my eyes upon a very strange land. I immediately knew then I was on Mars. Not once did I question this fact. My mind told me I was on Mars as your mind tells you that you are upon Earth. You do not question the fact, nor did I.

2 -Suddenly I heard a low noise behind me.
So could the rest of the Apaches.

Could you please tell me if we can use different tenses or not?

    Thanks.
