Default adjecteive comparison

Hi, can anyone tell me whether it should be the "next biggest one" or the next bigger?

I think it depends on the situation. I'll give a couple scenarios.

If there are three items A A A, and someone offers me A, but I would like to have A, then I would say 'give me the next bigger one'. The reason is because all three items still exist, and there can only be one biggest item at a time, and A is the biggest.

'Next biggest' is used when there is a replacement of one biggest with another. You can say for example 'that's the next biggest fad'. But this will only happen if the current fad drops in popularity below the level of the new fad.

Keep in mind some people will use 'next biggest one' for both situations. Any other opinions on this? I'm only working from native experience on this one.
