hitchhike means to catch a ride with someone to the closest point near your destination and then to hike the rest of the way.Quote:

You can hitch a ride with someone (i.e catch a ride with them in their vehicle) but you can't hitchhike a ride, because 'hike' means to walk.
:D
Then I put it down that ' can you give me a hitchhike ' is not a way to ask for riding with them home. :)
What about Can you give me a lift ? Has it the same meaning as the examples above?
I think so :) another option of ' can you give me a ride/lift
Not necessarily- you would ask a friend or acquaintance for a lift, but you wouldn't hitch a ride with them, unless you were using the term jokingly. ;-)Quote:
