When you say "down" the street, does it mean "at the lower part" of a slanted street or just "along" a street?

M : There are just two hotels here. The other is right down the street.

It could mean either. If the street is on a hill, then "down" likely indicates a direction. Otherwise, it simply means it is on the street.
