    Default meaning+being current+back East+she is not much for writing letters

    I put a big value on being current with my friends. My friend Odette lives back East, and she is not much for writing letters.
    Sorry, I checked my dictionary but I couldn't get the meaning of the parts in bold type.
    Will you please help me?

    Current = up to date, informed on the lives of her friends.

    "Back East" depends on where the writer is.

    She doesn't like writing letters.
