intransitive

My dictionary (Longman) says "glance" is always intransitive. It means it doesn't need an object. But the first example is "The man glanced nervously at his watch." Isn't "his watch" the object here? I can get it. I'm confused. Could you pleaae explain?

"Intransitive" means it does not need a direct object. There is no direct object in that example.

"I threw the ball" -- "the ball" is the DO of "threw."

We can't say "I glanced my watch."
