wind up with the Cabs?

Dear Teachers,

I am confused about the following sentence:

"I shuffled my way through the crush of bodies back to where the three neophytes were winding up with the Cabs, hoping for one last shot."

1. What does it mean by "wind up with the Cabs"?
2. Is a cab a taxi? When we write cab, do we need a capital C?
3. Does "hoping for one last shot" describe "I" or "the three neophytes"?

Cabs- a type of wine (Cabernet Sauvignon?), so they are finishing their evening with this, presumably hoping for a last rush or pleasure or alcohol.

Btw, this wasn't easy to find- I managed to dig up the text, but my first idea for the Cabs, was a band called Cabaret Voltaire.
