    Default By the time

    Hi,

    • By the time he finished, I had cooked dinner.
    • We will have finished our homework by the time they arrive.

'By the time' expresses the idea that one event has been completed before another.
    Source

Please, which event completed first and which last?

The underlined events happened first. 'By the time (that)' has the idea of 'no later than the time (that)' / 'At or before the time (that)'
