call out?

Hello.

I would like to know a word/phrase to describe a situation where workers are calling out (?) to each other to check things at construction sites etc in order to prevent danger.
So does the following sentence make sense?:

Be sure to call out to each other for safe operation during the work.

I'm not sure I can imagine a company thinking that workers yelling at each other is a good form of health and safety at work. However, if I had to give such an instruction it would probably be something like this:

Ensure you keep in verbal contact with your co-workers at regular intervals during the operation/job.

I guess my writing was not good earlier and 'verbal contact' seems to fit for the situation. For example, when you have to carry a big heavy object with other people, first you may need to ask them 'Are you ready?' or something like that, and those people having asked by you also have to reply 'Yes I am or No' etc. Then maybe you say 'One, two, three!' so the others can hear you to lift or place the object at the same time. I hope I have described the situation..
