Functional and health condition of the examined patients was registered

Dear friends,

I have some doubts about the following:

"Functional and health condition of the examined patients was registered for further research". By "examined patients" I mean patients who are examined or are being examined by doctors in order to find out if they need any treatment or not and to detect any diorders they have.

Can we use this phrase "examined patients" in this meaning? I'm anxious about the word order: "examined" first and "patients" second.
