Talking about the action in the film, is it correct to say:
Next happenings are surprising.

Probably it's better to say:
What happens next is surprising.

But if I want to use a noun, is "event" a correct option here?
Next events are surprising.

It is better, but it needs a definite article: The next events are surprising. I originally thought 'following' would be better than 'next', but 'The following events...' means something else ['The events that this document is about to list'].

Perhaps use a subordinate clause? - 'The events that follow are surprising'.
