    Default parts of sentence

    Hello,
    Please tell me the function of "was impossible" in the sentence.
    It was pouring rain getting a cab was impossible.
    It(subject)
    was pouring(action verb)
    rain(direct object)
    getting(verb)

    The sentence doesn't look right to me:
    It was pouring with rain so getting a cab was impossible
    Now, it should be easier to work things out.
