Using nouns after linking verbs
I am wondering how to know which linking verb may take a noun after itself, and which may not. Are there any rules to distinguish one from the other. For instance, is it correct to use nouns after linking "get"? May I say "He got a doctor." meaning "He became a doctor."?

Re: Using nouns after linking verbs
May I say "He got a doctor." meaning "He became a doctor."? No- it would would mean that he called/summoned/arranged for as doctor to come.

Re: Using nouns after linking verbs
Thanks.
I know for sure that nouns may follow "to be", "to become" and "to prove".
Please, could anyone of English speakers supplement this list?
