Set or sit?

Hi,

Do you say:

'Let the marinade set or sit few hours' I have seen both also 'Let the shampoo sit or set for 5 minutes' Which one is correct and why I have seen both examples with both options. So I'm kinda confused which one is right?

They mean different things. If you let something sit for a period of time, you leave it sitting where it is without moving it. If you let it set, you leave it until it solidifies.
