I hope the above sign is not garbled: two vertical lines over two horizontal lines, similar to the 'SHARP' in music. Is it called a 'hash mark' or 'hash sign' in the UK? Thank you.

It's called "diese" -the sharp sign in music-in my language. So does it mean that there are two # symbols in English? One is called hash and the other one is sharp ?

"diese" Is it also used for the computer or cellphone sign too? We do here in Japan. We call both of them 'SHARP'. The actual signs seem different. The sign on the computer or cellphone - the vertical lines are somewhat slanted. The music sign - the horizontal lines are somewhat slanted, while the vertical lines are straight.
