    Default every bit

I don't fully understand the underlined part of the following sentence. What does it mean by 'every bit as upbeat'? Is it an idiom?

Pausch'sspeech, entitled "Achieving Your Childhood Dreams," was every bit asupbeat and inspirational as the man himself.

"Upbeat" in terms of a personal characteristic would mean enthusiastic, full of life and positive energy, and in your post, Pausch's speech was equal to ("every bit as upbeat") Pausch's personality.
