    Which one is correct?

    When I ---- astronomy at the University of Yale, quasars ---- yet ---- discovered.

    A) studied / was not / discovered
    B) was studying / had not / been discovered
    C) had studied / was not / discovered
    D) was studying / was not / discovered
    E) studied / had not / been discovered

    What about this one? I changed the alternatives a bit. To me, the correct alternative is B. Do you think the other ones, especially E, stand any chance of being correct too?

    A, though not very natural or common, is possible. E is less likely because they probably remained undiscovered until he or she had finished university.

    To the best match "E" is more applicableto the condition, as its always better to be simplenot try any extra ordinary formats.
