Using the verb peer
Hello, I can't understand why it is being used two verb complement in the phrase below:
''crept to the bedroom
window and peered down into the front garden''
peered ''down into [...]'' isn't a pleonasm?

I don't think so. "Down" indicates that the bedroom window is probably on an upper floor, and some proposition such as "at" or "into" is necessary with peered, an intransitive verb. Which words do you think are superfluous?
