Default another strange expression (for me..)

Hi, I'd like to know what the parts (in capital letters)of the following sentence mean:
Is this a ruse to TAKE a lovesick maiden and CONFUSE?

Does it mean: Is it a ruse to TRICK and CONFUSE a lovesick girl?

    thanks Rip

It doe, but it's a bit weird- I think there may be some attempt to play on the word 'fuse' as an innuendo.
