Identity issues in computer mediated communication

Hi guys...I would like to know your opinions/views on identity issues in computer mediated communication. What issues are there? What are factors influencing these issues? What should the participants do to protect themselves from imposters? Thank you very much for your participation!

It's hard to be an imposter- I can't steal your identity here without knowing your password, so the nearest I could do would be to have a name close to yours like 'Sams1ahk'.

Thanks for the reply...ha..ha, so I must make clearer statements..well, imposters when it come to the MUDs program? Faking as in claiming what you are not, that kind of things. Interacting in the absence of face-to-face aspects sure have its disadvantages? So what happens? Thanks, tdol!

From what I've seen, a more common problem is that of 'socks' where someone pretends to be someone else in order to attack someone they have been in conflict with online, which can make the conflict nastier in forums and BBs.
