hello teacher
I read this paragraph many times but I didn't get what does it mean ?
what make it difficult is this part
" comparat-ively small number "
I dont know what does "comparat-evily " mean ?
so please can anybody explain it for me , in details all the paragraph if that possible please
the paragraph is :
"this broke the contiguity of the country and left three bulges of western roman-inhabited territory cut-off from the larger Roman body . A comparat-ively small number of Romans became " Greek " under the empire mandate "
thanks in advance
Hello Herbiji
If the hyphen is present in the text, it's a mistake: the word is "comparatively". (Perhaps the hyphen is the remnant of an old line-break.)
Comparatively means "in relation to X" or "in comparison with X". So 3 is "a comparatively small number", in relation to 1,200.
In your example, it means that, in comparison with the total number of Romans, a small number of Romans became Greek.

oh , thanks alot dear teacher " MrPedantic "
I didn't notice that both " comparat " and " evily " can make a single word
" comparatevily "so it's a mistake
