    Default Sentence Formation

    Hi everyone. I,m robertmic from lagos and I,m struggling to learn english. Please help Is this sentence correct;
    "All efforts made in contacting him was to no avail"
    when do you use "was" and "were"

    It should be 'were' beause you have 'efforts', which is in the plural. I'd say the following:
    All efforts made to contact him were to no avail.

    "Efforts", in the sentence above, is plural, so, "were" is appropriate.
