understanding 1 he has played his first game for his country and the team didn’t have it all their own way.
didn't have it all their own way....what did the writer want to say here?thanx.

Re: understanding The phrase means that the team didn't totally dominate the game, and that the team they were playing caused them some problems.
Having watched the match, I would have to agree that it is true. England didn't have things all their own way. Uruguay always looked dangerous when attacking, and scored a superb goal!
