Red face why are feet considered singular?

feet are used to describe both our right and left foot combined.so we should use 'are' with them.but we use 'is' with them and consider them singular.why?

I thought 'are' is used with feet like in the following sentence:

Burning feet are a common symptom in those with diabetes.

We don't. Do you have an example of a sentence you have spotted where the word "feet" is singular?

(Note that I wrote "feet is" there. But actually, in that sentence, I am talking about a word -- one word, singular -- and that word is "feet".)

"Feet" are plural. I cannot think of any situation where it would be correct to use "feet is..."
