Talking 74-open the bidding

Dear all

Hello

What does it mean when they use this expression?
Open the bidding…
It was written in the paragraph bellow

(At the bridge table, the player who opens the bidding may not be the one who wins the hand.)

Thanks a million

Matilda

Default Re: 74-open the bidding

The person who starts (i.e., opens) the bidding. In this case, bid money on a hand, a set of cards, as in the card game Poker.

To bid: to offer a monetary amount (e.g., a price) for something.
