Question Those days there were no schools

Hi,

I came across this sentence:
1."Those days there were no schools."

Somehow it seems better if you say
2. "In those days there were no schools."

Is #1 above considered correct in
colloquial English?

Thanks

2. sounds right. Otherwise there'd be two subjects. As to whether 1. is colloquial or not, I don't know. What I can tell you, though, is this, I understand it.
