| Just trying tell needs an object pronoun and "say" doesn't need an object pronoun, but if you want to add, you have to put first "to". Examples I told you not to go I said something to you. "say" and "tell" mean to speak words, but "tell" also means to give some information. Tell me your name Tell me how can I help you.
