Compare and contrast between a school and a university.


Thesis statement

In spite of several characteristics that can be found in both schools and universities, there are undeniably things that distinguish them from one another.


Topic sentence 1 (Compare)

A school resembles a university in a way that both places are designated for learning; they are where students acquire knowledge.

Supporting sentences

-A school is an institution offering a system of compulsory public education.

-A university is an institution of higher education and of research.

A school and a university are also common in terms of their structural and prominent features.

Supporting sentences

-A school and a university each consists of a head, teachers, students, and staff workers.

Those who teach in a school are simple known as ‘teachers’ whereas in a university, teachers are known as lecturers and tutors. Students are found in both places.
-Facilities such as classrooms, libraries, staff rooms, halls, and basketball courts can be found in both schools and universities.


Topic sentence 3 (Contrast)

-A school puts more importance on formality but a university does not emphasize much on it.

Supporting sentences

-School uniforms are to be worn by all school children in our country but in a university, we are allowed to wear the clothes we are comfortable with as long as it is not against the dress codes.
-An assembly is held at least biweekly (if not weekly) in a school but in a university, having an assembly only occurs once in a blue moon.

Topic sentence 4 (Contrast)

-A school and a university are dissimilar in terms of the assignments given.

Supporting sentences

-Students are given homework whereby the answers can usually be found from the text books or the notes.
-In university level, students almost always have to do extensive researches in order to be able to complete their assignments.


Conclusion

-In spite of several differences, both schools and universities are great places to acquire knowledge.
-So long as a student is willing to work hard and improve, he/she will be able to excel in both school and university.



Body paragraph

A school resembles a university in a way that both places are designated for learning; they are where students acquire knowledge. A school is an institution offering a system of compulsory public education. In some countries, certain schools offer a system of education dedicated to learning within one particular field such as a school of dance, a school of economics, a school of journalism, and so forth. On the other hand, a university is an institution of higher education and of research. It grants academic degrees at all levels including bachelor, master, and doctor, in a variety of fields. The more educated we are, the more knowledge we will gain. This, of course, secures our future.

This, of course, secures our future.- This seems a bit strong for me- it is not guaranteed- try 'should secure'
