Question Is this sentence correct?

Hi,
My name is Teena. Iam not quite sure if the following setence is correct.
"The weather was rainy last week"- can we say this sentence is correct?
According to me the "weather cannot be rainy" it may be colocially used but it is grammatically incorrect.
You could say :- We had rainy weather, or hot/warm weather last week. But is it grammatically correct to say "weather was cold or the weather was rainy?"
Please advice
Eagerly awaiting your response.
Thanks,
Regards,
Teena

'It was rainy...' sounds better to me, but there's nothing wrong with saying 'the weather was'.
